The Act of Unbecoming

Updated: Aug 18, 2021

Sometimes becoming who you really are is about unbecoming all the things you are not. Yes, yes! This! This is a truth I've been fully realizing. This rings so true to me.

The world has a lot of expectations but who are YOU really among them all, despite them all? It's when you strip away all the layers our environments pile on us, that you'll start to finally see. I know I have. It's been a winding road, but I'm finally unbecoming all the things that I really am not.

We're conditioned from a very young age to want and to be certain things. Our schools, our families, our friends, our Instagram - all these areas have rooted deep in our minds and thoughts and convinced us, somewhere along the way, what happiness is, what success is, what freedom is, what will make us feel most ourselves.

And most of the time that picture is cookie-cutter, traditional, predictable, safe, status quo.

Most of the time they have got it all wrong.

Because is that you, is that really you?

Don't get me wrong, there is definitely nothing wrong with safe, with the expected route. If that feels good for you. But if not, girl, I urge you to do the inner deep-dive, to search your own wisdom, your own desires, to find what is. Because that is the key to everything.

Take time, reflect, be still with yourself and you will start to see who you are and who you are not. The new picture might surprise you but it'll be the best one yet, no filter needed.

It's not easy to escape the things society has told us for most of our lives but on the other side of all of that, I promise you, is who you're were meant to be all along.
